Diese kommt aus Australien und enthält 20 Titel, viele davon sind bekannte Hits, einige nicht so bekannt ("Kokomo", "That's Why God Made The Radio") und andere fehlen leider ("Heroes And Villains", "Barbara Ann"). Ein paar seltene Stereo-Versionen und eine erstklassige Qualität machen diese Zusammenstellung trotzdem hörenswert. Auf der Doppel-CD "Sail On, Sailor - 1972" finden sich die Alben "Carl And The Passions: So Tough" und "Holland", re-mastered und mit sehr viel Bonus-Material angereichert, insgesamt 45 Titel. Zu "Carl And The Passions" gibt es hier 8 bisher unveröffentlichte Bonus-Tracks sowie 7 zu "Holland" plus die 6 Titel von Brian Wilson's EP "Mount Vernon And Fairway (A Fairy Tale)". Hier hat Brian ganz seltenes Material für die Fans zusammengestellt. |
And again we have a BEACH BOYS compilation entitled "Greatest Hits". This one comes all the way from Australia and it contains 20 tracks, many of which actually were big hits, some of them are not so well-known ("Kokomo", "That's Why God Made The Radio"), and some of the really big ones are missing ("Heroes And Villains", "Barbara Ann"). A couple of rare stereo cuts and an over all excellent quality still make this one worthwhile. JERRY COLE stammt aus Green Bay, Wisconsin. Er kam Ende der 50er Jahre nach Los Angeles und wurde 1960 Mitglied der CHAMPS ("Tequila") zusammen mit Glen Campbell, Jimmy Seals und Dash Crofts. 1962 wechselte er zum Produzieren und Komponieren. Nur gelegentlich verschlug es ihn in das Aufnahme-Studio. Dort entstanden dann mit Session-Musikern Alben und Singles als Jerry Cole & The Spacemen, Jerry Cole & The Stingers, Jerry Kole & The Strokers, The Hornets oder The Risers. Diese CD enthält die kompletten Alben "Outer Limits" und "Surf Age" sowie einzelne Titel der LP "Hot Rod Dance". JERRY COLE, born in Green Bay, Wisconsin, arrived in Los Angeles at the end of the 1950s. He joined the CHAMPS ("Tequila") in 1960 where he met with Glen Campbell, Jimmy Seals and Dash Crofts. Eddie Bertrand war 1963 von den BELAIRS gekommen und gründete mit Rob Edwards, Freddy Buxton, Bob Knight, die von den BAYMEN gekommen waren, und Dick Dodd EDDIE & THE SHOWMEN in Palos Verdes in Süd-Kalifornien. Dieses war die Stammbesetzung, obwohl bei verschiedenen Sessions immer wieder mal andere Namen auftauchten. Eddie Bertrand left the BELAIRS in 1963 to join the BAYMEN, Rob Edwards, Freddy Buxton and Bob Knight. They were joined by drummer Dick Dodd and renamed EDDIE & THE SHOWMEN. They came from Palos Verdes in Southern California. This was the group's basic line-up, but on occasion - recording sessions and public appearances - other people are known to have joined. Their sound was a unique hard surf music, created by Bertrand in close co-operation with guitar genius Leo Fender. There never was an LP released with this group's music, therefore this CD is the one and only opportunity to have a collection with all known recorded 17 songs. |

With instrumentals firmly in the hands of The Ventures and Duane Eddy in those years Petty decided to add vocalist JIMMY GILMER to the outfit in 1963. In hindsight this turned out to be a wise move because together they scored several huge hits 1963/1964 as JIMMY GILMER & THE FIREBALLS. Beginning 1967 they called themselves THE FIREBALLS again adding 3 more chart hits to their success story until 1969. THE RIP CHORDS waren ursprünglich ein Surf-/Hot-Rod-Duo aus Kalifornien, Phil Stewart und Ernie Bringas. Als sie Ende 1962 einen Vertrag bei Columbia Records bekamen, übernahmen Terry Melcher und Bruce Johnston die Kontrolle über die Plattenaufnahmen und haben selbst zusammen mit der legendären "Wrecking Crew" die erfolgreichen Titel der Gruppe eingespielt. Stewart und Bringas blieben Mitglieder der Tournee-Version der Gruppe. Die CD enthält 18 Titel, darunter die ersten 4 ihrer 5 Top 100 Hits. |
Originally THE RIP CHORDS were a surf/hot rod duo from Los Angeles, Phil Stewart and Ernie Bringas. After signing with Columbia Records at the end of 1962, Terry Melcher and Bruce Johnston took control of their recordings, and consequently recorded most of the group's releases themselves together with the "Wrecking Crew", Phil Spector and Brian Wilson's regular studio musicians. Stewart and Bringas remained part of the group's touring outfit. The CD contains 18 tracks, among those the first 4 of their 5 chart entries. |

Nashville, TN, does not exactly have a reputation of being the home of first-rate hot rod music, but RONNY & THE DAYTONAS prove this rumor wrong. Ronny is Buck Wilkin and the Daytonas - at least at their recording sessions - are Buzz Cason (see THE ELIMINATORS), Bill Justis, Bobby Russell, and Bergen White, so basically the best there is in session musicians. For many years the first two hot rod albums by The T-BONES, a studio group Joe Saraceno and Dave Pell created around brothers Danny and Judd Hamilton, have been considered instrumental legend, with record prices at auctions, and mint copies have become extremely scarce in the meantime. In addition to the 24 album tracks from "Boss Drag" and "Boss Drag At The Beach", this CD contains the 45 single hits "No Matter What Shape (Your Stomach's In)" and "Underwater", plus 4 tracks so far released only on a rare Sunset Records longplayer, all in stereo. |

Ihr Harmoniegesangsstil war ideal für die in der ersten Hälfte der 60er Jahre angesagte Musik, trotzdem ist nur eines ihrer 11 Alben ein Surf-/Hot-Rod-Album. Dieses ist komplett auf dieser CD zusammen mit einigen unbekannten bzw. unveröffentlichten Titeln aus derselben Zeit. |
Founded in 1956 by, among others, Neil Sedaka, THE TOKENS were regular chart suppliers between 1961 and 1970, with their original version of "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" from 1961 still to this day being their most popular hit record. Their vocal style was predestined for the mid-60s surf- and hot rod music scene, but only one out of their 11 albums is dedicated to that kind of music. It is a rare collectors item, "Wheels" from 1964. This CD contains that complete album plus other recordings the group made during that period, some of those never before released. |

The Eliminators, The Zip-Codes und The Statues waren Kreationen des Allround-Musikers Buzz Cason, der als Produzent bei Liberty auf der Surf-/Hot Rod-Welle mitschwimmen wollte, und, zusammen mit für diese Art Musik sehr erfahrenen Studiomusikern, je ein Album als The Eliminators ("Liverpool, Dragsters, Cycles, And Surfing") und als The Zip-Codes ("Mustang") aufnahm, beide komplett auf dieser CD. Bereits einige Jahre zuvor hatte Buzz unter dem Pseudonym Garry Miles zusammen mit den Statues mehrere erfolgreiche Singles bei Liberty eingespielt. |
The Eliminators, The Zip-Codes and The Statues were all created by musical whiz-kid Buzz Cason, who, as a producer for Liberty Records, wanted his share of the surf and hot rod music euphoria. So, together with some well-known studio musicians, he recorded one album as The Eliminators ("Liverpool, Dragsters, Cycles, And Surfing") and one as the Zip-Codes ("Mustang") - both are now legendary, and both are complete on this CD. A few years earlier, as Garry Miles, he had recorded several successful 45s together with the Statues. |
